AdvocAid is a Sierra Leonean nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the rights of women and girls through access to justice, legal empowerment, education, and advocacy. Founded in 2006, the organization works with women and girls who come into contact with Sierra Leone’s often unjust legal system, ensuring they receive the support, representation, and opportunities needed to protect their rights and build brighter futures.
As the only organization in West Africa providing a holistic approach to access to justice for women and girls in conflict with the law, AdvocAid offers free legal representation, legal education, detainee support, rehabilitation services, and post-detention programs. The organization works to ensure that women and girls understand their rights, receive fair treatment within the justice system, and have access to opportunities that support their reintegration and long-term wellbeing.
At the heart of AdvocAid’s work is the belief that justice should be accessible to everyone, regardless of gender, education, or economic status. The organization recognizes that many women and girls face systemic barriers, discrimination, and poverty that prevent them from accessing legal support and exercising their rights. By providing legal empowerment and practical assistance, AdvocAid helps individuals navigate the justice system while addressing the broader inequalities that contribute to injustice.
Beyond individual case support, AdvocAid works to create lasting systemic change through research, advocacy, and legal reform. The organization collaborates with communities, government institutions, legal professionals, and civil society partners to promote gender-responsive justice systems, strengthen human rights protections, and amplify the voices of women and girls in policy and decision-making processes.
Through legal empowerment, education, advocacy, and partnership, AdvocAid is helping build a future where women and girls in Sierra Leone have their human rights respected, their voices heard, and the opportunity to shape the systems that affect their lives.
