Borneo Institute Foundation

Borneo Institute Foundation is an Indonesian non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing sustainable development, environmental conservation, Indigenous rights, and community empowerment across Borneo. Based in Central Kalimantan, the organisation works alongside Indigenous Peoples, local communities, government institutions, academic partners, and civil society organisations to promote equitable development while protecting the island’s unique cultural and ecological heritage.

The foundation implements programmes focused on natural resource governance, forest and peatland conservation, climate resilience, community-based environmental management, sustainable livelihoods, Indigenous knowledge, and participatory research. Through scientific studies, policy advocacy, capacity building, and community-led initiatives, Borneo Institute supports the sustainable management of forests and ecosystems while strengthening the ability of local communities to safeguard their lands and natural resources.
