Kawasan Wisata Pendidikan Lingkungan Hidup (KWPLH) Balikpapan, commonly known as the Sun Bear Conservation Centre, is an Indonesian non-profit conservation organisation dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, conservation, and public education of the endangered sun bear (Helarctos malayanus), the world’s smallest bear species. Located in East Kalimantan, the centre works to protect one of Southeast Asia’s most threatened mammals while promoting environmental awareness and forest conservation across Borneo.
The organisation provides lifelong care and rehabilitation for rescued sun bears that have been displaced by habitat loss, illegal wildlife trade, or human-wildlife conflict. Alongside its animal welfare activities, KWPLH implements environmental education programmes, biodiversity conservation initiatives, scientific collaboration, and public outreach designed to increase understanding of wildlife conservation and the importance of protecting Borneo’s tropical forests.
