PEKKA (Pemberdayaan Perempuan Kepala Keluarga) is an Indonesian non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering women-headed households through economic inclusion, legal empowerment, social justice, and community leadership. Founded in 2001, the organisation works across Indonesia to strengthen the rights, resilience, and independence of women who are widowed, divorced, abandoned, or otherwise responsible for supporting their families. By addressing structural inequalities and promoting gender equality, PEKKA helps women become active agents of change within their communities.
PEKKA implements a wide range of programmes focused on women’s economic empowerment, financial inclusion, legal identity, access to justice, education, digital literacy, community organising, and leadership development. Through savings and loan groups, entrepreneurship training, legal assistance, civic participation initiatives, and capacity-building programmes, the organisation enables women to improve their livelihoods while increasing their participation in social, economic, and political decision-making.
Recognising that sustainable development depends on equal opportunities for all, PEKKA works closely with local communities, government institutions, civil society organisations, academic partners, and international development agencies to advocate for inclusive public policies and strengthen social protection systems. The organisation also supports women in obtaining legal documentation, accessing public services, and participating in community governance, helping reduce barriers faced by marginalised households.
Through community empowerment, advocacy, and collective action, PEKKA is helping build a more inclusive Indonesia where women-headed households can live with dignity, security, and equal opportunities. By strengthening women’s leadership and promoting gender justice, the organisation contributes to more resilient families and stronger communities across the country.
